Fastening systems, temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and mechanical characteristics – third part

To create corrosion-resistant fastening systems, different types of materials belonging to different categories can be used, we can define them as families, which differ mainly in the quantity of certain alloy elements (especially nickel and chromium); the diagram below better identifies the subdivision:

During the design phase, a first rough choice can be made by selecting which of these families has the characteristics that best satisfy the operating conditions, remembering the important economic aspect that can make a good technical solution unsupportable by the cost target.

In the next part we will begin to analyze the first family, that of the 300 and 400 series stainless steels.
