Alloy Alloy 2507, also known as UNS S32750 or super duplex 2507, is a stainless steel alloy designed to withstand particularly aggressive conditions. Due to its duplex microstructure (approximately 50 percent austenite and 50 percent ferrite), this material combines very high corrosion resistance with high mechanical properties, making it a strategic choice in critical industries such as offshore, marine, energy, and chemical industries.

Chemical composition of Alloy 2507

The formula ofAlloy 2507 was developed to provide superior performance both mechanically and chemically. Typical composition includes:

  • Chromium (Cr): 24-26%
  • Nickel (Ni): 6-8%
  • Molybdenum (Mo): 3-5%.
  • Nitrogen (N): 0.24-0.32%.
  • Iron (Fe): balanced

This combination ensures a high PREN index (>40), a parameter that measures resistance to pitting and cracking corrosion.

Mechanical properties of Alloy 2507

Compared with conventional austenitic stainless steels such as AISI 316L, Alloy 2507 offers significantly superior performance:

Properties Alloy 2507 AISI 316L
Tensile strength (Rm) ≥ 800 MPa 500-700 MPa
Elastic limit (Rp0.2) ≈ 550 MPa 300-450 MPa
Elongation ≥ 25% ≥ 40%
Resistance to pitting (PREN) > 40 24-27

These values highlight the suitability of Super Duplex 2507 for use in highly corrosive and high-pressure environments.

Industrial applications of Alloy 2507

Because of its qualities, Alloy 2507 is in demand in many industries:

  • Offshore sector: piping, fittings, hardware, and submerged structures in seawater
  • Chemical industry: processing plants with acids and aggressive solutions
  • Energy: turbines, generators and heat exchangers exposed to extreme thermal cycles
  • Naval: components subject to salt spray and localized corrosion
  • Infrastructure: support systems in environments subject to high humidity and salt contamination

The combination of strength and durability helps to reduce maintenance costs and provide greater operational safety.
